Vivo T5 5G First Impressions: Premium Curved AMOLED Design Meets Dimensity 7500 Turbo

The Vivo T5 5G marks the fifth addition to Vivo’s T-series smartphone lineup in India, but the company appears to be taking a slightly different approach with this generation. While previous T-series models have largely focused on performance and practical hardware, the Vivo T5 5G places considerably more emphasis on design without abandoning the performance-oriented identity of the range.

After spending some initial time with the handset, the first impression is that Vivo has attempted to make the T5 5G look and feel more premium than its positioning might suggest. The combination of a curved AMOLED Display, curved rear panel, slim-looking frame and a distinctive horizontal camera module gives the phone a visual identity that stands apart from many conventional mid-range Smartphones.

There is more to the Vivo T5 5G than its appearance, however. The phone comes with a 1.5K AMOLED panel, a MediaTek Dimensity 7500 Turbo chipset, a 50-megapixel Sony rear camera and up to 12GB of RAM. The early experience is promising, although several important areas, particularly camera quality, sustained performance, battery endurance and charging, require longer testing before a final judgement can be made.

Vivo T5 5G price and variants in India

The Vivo T5 5G is positioned in a segment where buyers have a growing number of options, making pricing an important part of its appeal. The smartphone starts at Rs. 34,999 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration.

Vivo also offers higher-memory configurations, including 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, 8GB RAM with 256GB storage and a top-end 12GB RAM with 256GB storage variant. The highest configuration is priced at Rs. 49,999.

That creates a fairly wide price range within the same model. The base variant is aimed at buyers looking for a premium-looking phone without moving too far beyond the mid-range category, while the higher variants compete in a segment populated by performance-focused smartphones with increasingly sophisticated displays and cameras.

Vivo T5 5G design: A significant departure for the T-series

The most noticeable change on the Vivo T5 5G is its design. The T-series has traditionally been associated more strongly with specifications and performance than with elaborate styling, but the T5 5G takes a more design-centric approach.

The phone features a 3D curved AMOLED display that bends toward the sides. Curved displays are still relatively uncommon around the sub-Rs. 35,000 price range, particularly when combined with a large 1.5K resolution panel. The curved edges help reduce the visual prominence of the side bezels and create an impression of a larger, more immersive screen.

The curved construction also changes how the phone feels in the hand. Because both the front and rear surfaces taper toward the frame, the sides feel thinner than they would on a conventional flat smartphone. Your fingers naturally wrap around the curved edges, making the handset relatively comfortable to grip.

The effect is particularly noticeable when using the phone without its protective case. The slim-feeling frame and rounded edges give the Vivo T5 5G a more expensive in-hand character than its price positioning initially suggests.

A curved phone that remains comfortable to hold

Despite its large display, the Vivo T5 5G does not immediately feel unwieldy. The handset weighs approximately 199 grams, and the overall weight distribution is reasonable during initial use.

There is a slight top-heavy sensation, something that is not unusual for large-screen smartphones. However, it does not significantly affect normal one-handed handling. The curved rear panel and matte-like finish on the frame also contribute to the grip.

The frame has a relatively understated finish rather than a glossy surface. This helps the phone feel secure in the hand and reduces the slippery sensation often associated with highly polished smartphone frames.

Vivo T5 5G display: Large 1.5K curved AMOLED panel

The front of the Vivo T5 5G is dominated by a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,260 x 2,800 pixels. A centred hole-punch cutout houses the 32-megapixel selfie camera.

During the initial period of use, the display appeared punchy and smooth. AMOLED technology naturally helps with contrast and deep blacks, while the higher-than-Full-HD resolution should provide sharper text and images than a conventional 1080p panel of a similar size.

The curved edges also contribute to the phone’s visual presentation. Content appears to extend closer to the sides of the chassis, giving the front of the device a more immersive appearance.

However, display quality cannot be judged solely from a short hands-on session. Brightness in direct sunlight, colour accuracy, HDR behaviour, viewing angles and long-term comfort are all areas that require more extensive testing before the screen can be rated conclusively.

Button placement is ergonomic, but the fingerprint sensor feels low

Vivo has kept the physical controls on the right side of the handset. The power button and volume rocker are positioned within easy reach, and during initial use the arrangement felt intuitive.

The power button falls naturally under the thumb, while the volume controls do not require an exaggerated hand movement. This becomes particularly useful on a phone with a large 6.83-inch display, where poorly positioned controls can make basic tasks inconvenient.

The in-display fingerprint sensor, however, is positioned slightly lower than expected. Depending on how the phone is held, reaching the sensor can require deliberately moving the thumb downward. It is not a major usability problem, but the placement may take some getting used to.

Vivo T5 5G camera design: The horizontal module stands out

The rear camera arrangement is arguably the most distinctive visual element of the Vivo T5 5G. Instead of using a conventional vertical camera island, Vivo has opted for a horizontal pill-shaped camera module.

The camera system and additional sensors sit behind a dark glass-like visor, while the LED ring light is positioned toward the right side of the module. The arrangement gives the rear panel a different character from many smartphones that now use increasingly large square or rectangular camera islands.

There is also a practical advantage to this design. Because the camera module is positioned horizontally, the phone remains relatively stable when placed on a flat surface. There is little of the pronounced rocking that can occur when a smartphone has a large camera bump concentrated toward one corner.

The design therefore manages to combine visual differentiation with a small but useful usability benefit.

Silver Green finish changes with the light

The Vivo T5 5G is available in Royal Bronze and Silver Green colour options. The Silver Green version used for the initial hands-on has a reflective finish that changes its appearance depending on the angle and intensity of light.

Rather than looking identical under every lighting condition, the rear panel can appear somewhat different as the phone is moved. This gives the otherwise minimalist rear panel more visual depth.

Vivo has used a plastic rear panel, but the material choice does not immediately make the phone feel inexpensive. The combination of the finish, curved construction and camera design helps maintain the premium impression.

The USB Type-C port, SIM tray and primary speaker grille are located along the bottom edge. A secondary speaker opening is positioned at the top, contributing to the phone’s stereo audio setup.

Vivo T5 5G performance: Dimensity 7500 Turbo takes centre stage

Under the hood, the Vivo T5 5G is powered by the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7500 Turbo chipset. The octa-core processor combines four efficiency cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz with four performance cores reaching up to 2.6GHz.

The configuration reflects the T-series’ performance-oriented positioning. The chipset is designed to balance everyday responsiveness with the processing power required for demanding applications and gaming.

In short-term use, the phone felt responsive when moving between applications and navigating the interface. However, brief hands-on usage is not enough to determine how the chipset performs under sustained workloads.

Longer gaming sessions will be particularly important for assessing thermal management, sustained frame rates and performance consistency. Those tests will also help determine whether the Dimensity 7500 Turbo is able to maintain its performance without significant throttling.

Vivo T5 5G cameras: Hardware looks promising, but image quality needs more testing

The rear camera setup includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 primary sensor accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera. On paper, the combination gives the phone flexibility for everyday Photography as well as wider landscape and group shots.

The Sony IMX882 sensor is a familiar component in smartphones positioned around this segment, but the sensor itself does not determine the entire photography experience. Image processing, exposure handling, HDR performance, colour tuning, autofocus and low-light processing can all significantly affect the final result.

The 32-megapixel front camera is housed inside the centred hole-punch cutout. Selfie quality, portrait separation and video performance will require more extensive testing before drawing a conclusion.

For now, the camera hardware is encouraging, but it is too early to call the Vivo T5 5G a camera-focused smartphone based solely on its specifications.

First impressions: Vivo T5 5G looks more premium than its T-series predecessors

The biggest takeaway from the initial experience with the Vivo T5 5G is the shift in design philosophy. Vivo has retained the performance-focused identity associated with the T-series while giving the phone a considerably more premium appearance.

The curved 1.5K AMOLED display is one of the handset’s strongest visual features, while the curved rear panel and slim-feeling frame make the device comfortable to hold. The horizontal camera module further helps the phone stand out in a crowded smartphone market.

The Dimensity 7500 Turbo also gives the Vivo T5 5G a strong foundation for performance, but its real-world capabilities will become clearer only after extended gaming and multitasking tests.

There are still several unanswered questions. Camera performance, battery endurance, charging speed, thermal behaviour, software experience and sustained performance will all play a major role in determining whether the Vivo T5 5G deserves a strong recommendation in its price segment.

Based on the initial hands-on experience, however, the Vivo T5 5G makes a strong first impression. Its combination of a curved AMOLED display, distinctive design and performance-oriented hardware gives it a more ambitious character than previous T-series devices. A full review will reveal whether that premium first impression translates into an equally compelling everyday smartphone experience.

Vivo T5 5G battery and charging

The Vivo T5 5G also focuses on battery endurance, although a longer testing period is needed to determine how the phone performs under real-world usage.
