Morocco booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 after battling past a spirited Haiti side 4-2 in one of the most entertaining matches of the tournament so far. Despite finishing level on seven points with Brazil, the Atlas Lions had to settle for second place in Group C due to an inferior goal difference.

The victory ensured Morocco’s progression to the knockout stage, where they will face the winners of Group F. Meanwhile, Haiti exited the tournament without a point but earned widespread praise for their fearless performances throughout the competition.

Haiti Shock Morocco with Early Lead

Haiti made a dream start to the match and stunned Morocco after just 10 minutes. A well-worked move involving Josue Casimir and Jean-Kevin Duverne ended with Lenny Joseph finding the net through a fortunate deflection off Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Morocco controlled possession for long periods and created several chances, but veteran Haitian goalkeeper Johny Placide delivered a remarkable performance, making a series of impressive saves to frustrate the North African side.

Hakimi and Saibari Lead Morocco Fightback

The pressure finally paid off in the 39th minute when captain Achraf Hakimi reacted quickest inside the penalty area to score Morocco’s equaliser after Bilal El Khannouss’ dangerous delivery caused chaos in the Haiti defense.

However, Haiti responded almost immediately. Wilson Isidor restored his team’s lead with a stunning long-range strike deep into first-half stoppage time, silencing the Moroccan supporters.

Morocco refused to panic and struck back before the break. Hakimi turned provider this time, setting up Ismael Saibari, who calmly finished to make it 2-2 and continue his impressive World Cup campaign.

Rahimi and Yassine Seal Morocco’s Qualification

As the second half progressed, Morocco’s dominance began to show. The decisive moment arrived in the 78th minute when substitute Soufiane Rahimi capitalized on a defensive mistake to score from close range and give Morocco their first lead of the evening.

Haiti pushed forward in search of another equaliser, but Morocco sealed the victory in stoppage time. Rahimi kept the ball in play near the byline before squaring it for 20-year-old Gessime Yassine, who tapped into an empty net.

The goal was initially checked by VAR after Haiti’s players argued the ball had gone out of play. Following a lengthy review, officials confirmed the entire ball had remained on the field, allowing the goal to stand.

Morocco Advance While Haiti Exit with Pride

The 4-2 victory sends Morocco into the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout rounds with momentum and confidence. Although they missed out on topping Group C, the Atlas Lions remain one of Africa’s strongest hopes in the tournament.

For Haiti, the result marked the end of their World Cup journey. Despite losing all three group matches, they impressed with their attacking football and determination during their first World Cup appearance in more than 50 years.

Morocco will now turn their attention to the Round of 32, while Haiti leave the tournament with their reputation significantly enhanced after pushing one of Africa’s elite teams to the limit.
