India opener Rohit Sharma has won praise from fans on social media after a video showed him intervening when a security guard pushed away a supporter at Mumbai Airport.
The incident occurred on June 22 as Rohit arrived at the airport following India’s dominant 3-0 ODI series victory over Afghanistan. Several fans gathered around the veteran batter hoping to click selfies and greet their favorite cricketer before his departure.
Rohit reacts after fan is pushed away
During the interaction, one enthusiastic fan attempted to move closer to Rohit for a photograph. A member of Rohit’s security team quickly stepped in and pushed the fan away from the crowd.
Rohit immediately noticed the incident and appeared unhappy with the bodyguard’s actions. The former India captain turned back, stared at the security personnel and confronted him over the manner in which the fan was handled.
The brief moment was captured on camera and later shared by photojournalist Pallav Paliwal on social media, where the video quickly gained attention and appreciation from cricket fans.
Strong performance against Afghanistan
On the cricket field, Rohit recently played a key role in India’s ODI series sweep over Afghanistan.
After scoring 16 runs in the opening match, the experienced batter responded with impressive knocks of 48 and 79 in the next two games. His performances helped India dominate the series and complete a comfortable 3-0 clean sweep.
Cheteshwar Pujara backs Rohit ahead of England tour
Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara believes Rohit’s return to form has come at the perfect time before the challenging England tour.
Pujara noted that every batter, regardless of reputation, needs runs to build confidence and rhythm. According to him, Rohit’s fluent 79-run innings in the third ODI should help him approach the England series with greater confidence.
“No matter how big a player you are, you need runs, and the rhythm was visible in Rohit’s batting. It was important for him to score runs. He would have felt relieved that he is back in form.”
Pujara also highlighted Rohit’s contribution in the field, where he took three catches, describing it as an all-round positive outing for the senior opener.
“He can go to England slightly relaxed. The conditions there should suit him, and he will carry confidence from this innings.”
Focus shifts to England ODI series
With the Afghanistan series behind them, Rohit and the Indian team will now turn their attention to the three-match ODI series against England. The tour begins on July 14 in Birmingham and is expected to serve as an important step in India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Having regained form with the bat and displaying his calm leadership qualities off the field, Rohit will be hoping to carry that momentum into another crucial overseas assignment.
