Imam-ul-Haq Injury: PCB Orders Probe, Disciplinary Action Possible

Imam-ul-Haq injury controversy has intensified after the Pakistan Cricket Board reportedly ordered a formal probe into the opener’s left calf injury sustained during the second Test against England at Lord’s.

Imam was ruled out of the remainder of the match after suffering the injury on the opening day. Pakistan subsequently lost the Test by 194 runs and conceded the three-match series with one match still to play.

PCB orders investigation into Imam-ul-Haq injury

According to a PTI report, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has ordered a formal inquiry into Imam’s injury. The board is reportedly seeking the findings of the investigation as quickly as possible.

A source close to the PCB also claimed that Imam is expected to return home before the third Test. The investigation could determine whether any disciplinary action is required.

Questions surrounding the injury increased after Imam was seen practising his batting ahead of Day 4 at Lord’s while wearing tape around his left calf. His movements during the practice session prompted former England pacer Stuart Broad and former Australia opener David Warner to publicly question the situation.

Imam did not bat in either innings

Imam sustained the calf problem on the first day of the Lord’s Test and did not take part with the bat in either innings.

Pakistan’s batting struggled throughout the match, and the team eventually suffered a heavy defeat. With the series already lost, attention has now shifted toward team selection, player fitness and the PCB’s investigation into Imam’s injury.

Previous injury allegations add to the scrutiny

The current controversy has become more serious because questions about Imam’s fitness have reportedly surfaced on previous occasions.

Former Pakistan selector Mohammad Wasim recently recalled an incident from a home Test series in 2022. He claimed that concerns about a possible injury-related situation had been raised with him before the matter became public.

Wasim also suggested that similar concerns had reportedly been discussed by coaches in the past. These claims have added another layer to the scrutiny surrounding Imam’s latest injury.

Report claims PCB previously considered a ban

The latest development also follows a report by Pakistani media outlet Geo News concerning an alleged injury incident during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in 2025.

According to that report, a PCB inquiry committee had previously considered serious disciplinary action against Imam. The report claimed that medical examinations did not establish an injury and alleged that the appearance of discolouration on his toe had been artificially created.

Those allegations remain part of the reported background to the current controversy, while Imam has denied the earlier claims.

The latest PCB investigation is expected to focus specifically on the circumstances surrounding Imam’s calf injury at Lord’s. The board will have to determine whether there was any wrongdoing before deciding whether disciplinary action is appropriate.
