Ravindra Jadeja created history on Day 3 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium, completing 350 wickets in Test Cricket.
The 37-year-old India all-rounder achieved the landmark when he dismissed Sri Lanka debutant Keshara Nuwantha during the third session. Earlier in the day, Jadeja had also dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva.
Jadeja Becomes Sixth Left-Arm Bowler With 350 Test Wickets
Jadeja’s latest milestone placed him among an elite group of left-arm bowlers in Test cricket.
He became only the sixth left-arm bowler to reach 350 Test wickets, joining some of the greatest names in the history of the format.
- Mitchell Starc – 435 wickets
- Wasim Akram – 414 wickets
- Rangana Herath – 433 wickets
- Daniel Vettori – 362 wickets
- Chaminda Vaas – 355 wickets
- Ravindra Jadeja – 350 wickets
Among left-arm spinners, Jadeja became the third player to reach the 350-wicket mark, following Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath and New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori.
Jadeja Becomes India’s Fifth Bowler to Take 350 Test Wickets
The milestone also made Jadeja only the fifth Indian bowler to complete 350 wickets in Test cricket.
The list is led by legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who finished his career with 619 Test wickets. He is followed by Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh.
- Anil Kumble – 619 wickets
- Ravichandran Ashwin – 537 wickets
- Kapil Dev – 434 wickets
- Harbhajan Singh – 414 wickets
- Ravindra Jadeja – 350 wickets
Jadeja reached the landmark in his 90th Test match, further highlighting his longevity and consistency in the longest format.
Fourth All-Rounder to Complete 4,000 Runs and 350 Wickets
Jadeja’s achievement was not limited to his bowling numbers. He also became only the fourth all-rounder in Test history to score more than 4,000 runs and take at least 350 wickets.
He joined an exclusive group featuring Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori.
This achievement underlines Jadeja’s importance as a genuine Test all-rounder who has contributed significantly with both bat and ball throughout his career.
Jadeja Could Move Above Chaminda Vaas
Jadeja still has an opportunity to climb further up the list of left-arm bowlers with the most Test wickets during the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
With 350 wickets, he is just five wickets behind former Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas, who finished with 355 Test wickets.
A strong bowling performance in the remainder of the series could therefore see Jadeja move into fifth place among left-arm bowlers in Test history.
Jadeja Also Chasing Another Indian Batting Milestone
The veteran all-rounder has another landmark within reach with the bat.
Jadeja needs 47 more runs in the second innings to overtake current India head coach Gautam Gambhir and move into 18th place on India’s all-time list of leading Test run-scorers.
He scored 13 runs from 25 balls in India’s first innings before being dismissed lbw by Nuwantha on Day 2.
Jadeja Continues to Strengthen His Test Legacy
At 37, Jadeja continues to add major milestones to an already remarkable Test career. His ability to contribute consistently with both bat and ball has made him one of India’s most valuable all-rounders.
His 350 Test wickets against Sri Lanka not only put him alongside legends such as Starc, Akram, Herath, Vettori and Vaas, but also strengthened his place among India’s greatest Test all-rounders.
