Telangana Woman Murdered Over 1.5-Acre Land Dispute

A 28-year-old woman, identified as K Sunitha, was allegedly beheaded by her in-laws over a Property Dispute in Telangana’s Mahbubnagar district on Monday. According to the police, a long-running family dispute over ownership of 1.5 acres of agricultural land led to the brutal killing.

Sunitha is survived by her two daughters, aged five and two, and her husband, K Balaram, who is reportedly suffering from a mental illness. Police have named four of her in-laws as accused in the murder case registered following a complaint by her father.

The accused include her father-in-law Manikya Naik, brothers-in-law Manya Naik and Pandu Naik, and Pandu’s wife, Parvathy. Investigators believe the dispute over the agricultural land and suspicions about Sunitha’s personal life contributed to the alleged murder.

Property dispute over 1.5 acres allegedly led to murder

According to police, Sunitha’s marriage to K Balaram took place around a decade ago. The couple reportedly quarrelled frequently during their marriage, with family tensions continuing over the years.

About a year before the incident, Balaram’s elder brothers, Manya Naik and Pandu Naik, reportedly took him to Hyderabad for treatment related to his mental illness.

During this period, a settlement was reportedly facilitated by village elders to protect the future of Sunitha and her two daughters. Under the arrangement, approximately 1.5 acres of agricultural land belonging to Balaram was registered in Sunitha’s name.

Following the settlement, Sunitha and her daughters moved to her parents’ home. The land transfer was intended to provide financial security for her and the children, given her husband’s health condition.

However, the arrangement allegedly became a source of resentment within the family. Police said the dispute intensified when Sunitha recently returned to the agricultural land.

Four in-laws accused of attacking Sunitha

According to A Nagaraju, Station House Officer of Koilkonda police station, Sunitha was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons when she returned to the agricultural property.

The police have identified her father-in-law Manikya Naik, brothers-in-law Manya Naik and Pandu Naik, and Pandu’s wife Parvathy as the accused in the case.

Following a complaint lodged by Sunitha’s father, Valya Naik, police registered a murder case against all four individuals.

The allegations are based on the complaint and the initial police investigation. The accused persons’ guilt will be determined through the legal process.

Police cite suspicion about Sunitha’s personal life

Investigators have also pointed to suspicions held by Sunitha’s in-laws about her personal life as a possible factor behind the killing.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Station House Officer A Nagaraju said the family members allegedly suspected that Sunitha was involved in a relationship with another person.

According to the police officer, the accused feared that if Sunitha remarried, ownership of the agricultural land could eventually benefit her new husband. This suspicion allegedly increased resentment over the property arrangement.

Police said the family members had allegedly developed a grudge against Sunitha because the land had been registered in her name. Investigators are examining how the property dispute and these suspicions contributed to the alleged crime.

Police suspect the murder was premeditated

Police have described the killing as allegedly premeditated, suggesting that the accused had made preparations before Sunitha arrived at the agricultural land.

Nagaraju told The Indian Express that the accused had allegedly been plotting the murder for months and had made arrangements to attack her before she returned.

The police investigation is focused on establishing the sequence of events, the alleged roles of the four accused and the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Investigation underway after father’s complaint

Sunitha’s father, Valya Naik, approached the police after the incident, following which a murder case was registered against the four named family members.

The case has brought attention to the circumstances surrounding the land settlement, the alleged family resentment and the suspicions that investigators believe may have contributed to the crime.

With two young daughters left behind, the incident has also raised serious concerns about the vulnerability of women facing family disputes over property and financial security.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the full circumstances of the murder and gather evidence against the accused. Further legal proceedings will determine responsibility for the killing.
