Arshdeep Singh Reveals India Team Management’s Message on Test Debut

Arshdeep Singh continues to wait for his maiden Test cap, but the left-arm pacer has revealed that India’s team management has asked him to keep performing whenever opportunities come his way.

The India T20I specialist is currently representing North Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026. His recent performances have strengthened his case for a place in India’s Test setup as he looks to establish himself across formats.

Arshdeep Reveals Message From India Team Management

Arshdeep Singh recently opened up about the guidance he has received from the Gautam Gambhir-led India team management regarding his Test ambitions.

The left-arm pacer explained that the message has been straightforward: continue performing whenever he gets an opportunity and remain patient until his chance arrives.

“The message is to perform wherever you get a chance and just keep delivering, and when the time is right, you will get your chance,” Arshdeep said in a conversation with Indian Express.

The advice reflects the competition for places in India’s Test bowling attack. Arshdeep has limited first-class experience compared with several established red-ball bowlers, making consistent domestic performances particularly important for his Test ambitions.

Arshdeep Shines In Duleep Trophy 2026

Arshdeep recently played an important role in North Zone’s quarterfinal victory over West Zone in the Duleep Trophy.

The left-arm pacer picked up three wickets as North Zone bowled West Zone out for just 87 runs in the first innings. He bowled 14 overs, including one maiden, and conceded 53 runs.

Arshdeep also returned to dismiss Harvik Desai in West Zone’s second innings, although spin became more influential as the match progressed.

North Zone eventually secured a 52-run victory and advanced to the semifinal, where Arshdeep will continue his red-ball campaign.

Arshdeep Singh Wants To Play Test Cricket

Although Arshdeep has established himself as an important part of India’s T20I setup, the 27-year-old remains eager to make his mark in Test cricket.

The pacer has previously gained experience in red-ball cricket outside India. In 2023, he joined Kent and played County Cricket after receiving advice from former India head coach Rahul Dravid.

Arshdeep believes Test cricket provides bowlers with opportunities to recover from an unsuccessful opening spell and eventually make an impact by taking wickets.

Arshdeep’s First-Class Record

Arshdeep has played 23 first-class matches so far and has taken 71 wickets at an average of 30.26. His record includes two five-wicket hauls.

Those numbers provide a useful foundation as he continues to develop his red-ball credentials and compete for a place in India’s Test squad.

India’s Recent Left-Arm Test Pacers

India have not regularly used left-arm fast bowlers in Test cricket in recent years. Jaydev Unadkat was the most recent left-arm pacer to represent India in a Test match.

Yash Dayal was subsequently included in India’s Test squad for the Bangladesh series but did not make his debut.

Before them, Zaheer Khan enjoyed a long and successful Test career, taking 311 wickets in 92 matches. Irfan Pathan also claimed 100 Test wickets in 29 matches, while Ashish Nehra and RP Singh took 44 and 40 wickets respectively.

Can Arshdeep Earn His Maiden Test Cap?

Arshdeep’s performances in domestic red-ball cricket will remain important as he attempts to convince the selectors that he is ready for Test cricket.

His left-arm angle provides India with a different option, while his experience in T20Is and overseas domestic cricket could also benefit his case.

For now, Arshdeep appears focused on following the advice from the team management: keep performing, remain patient and wait for the right opportunity to arrive.
