Rupi Soren was the wife of Shibu Soren, the veteran Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader WHO played a central role in the state’s political movement and served as Jharkhand chief minister.

Rupi Soren Dies at 80 After Prolonged Health Complications

Rupi Soren died at around 8.30 pm on Wednesday at Hill View Hospital and Research Centre in Jharkhand. She had been receiving treatment at the hospital after being admitted on September 18 with breathing difficulties.

Dr Nitesh Priya, director of Hill View Hospital and Research Centre, said she had been in critical condition and was being monitored continuously by a team of doctors.

Her condition involved multiple complications, and doctors placed her on ventilator support on Wednesday as her health deteriorated.

“CM Hemant Soren’s mother Rupi Soren, who was admitted here, passed away around 8.30 pm. She was admitted to the hospital on September 18 with breathing difficulty,” Dr Priya said.

The news of her death was followed by an outpouring of condolences, particularly from political leaders who have worked with or interacted with the Soren family over the years.

Hemant Soren Shares Emotional Tribute to His Mother

Hemant Soren visited his mother earlier on the day of her death before sharing an emotional message following her passing.

In his tribute, the Jharkhand chief minister recalled the role his mother had played in his life after the death of his father, Shibu Soren.

“After Baba left, Maa was my greatest shelter. Today, even that shelter has merged into the lap of nature. Maa…” Hemant Soren wrote on social media.

The message reflected the personal loss for the chief minister, who had lost his father, a founding figure of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, earlier.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar also expressed condolences following Rupi Soren’s death and conveyed his sympathies to Hemant Soren and his family.

Gangwar offered prayers for strength for the bereaved family as they deal with the loss.
